29 random health-things I wish somebody told me 15 years ago as a young female:

  1. 🩹 Birth control is a bandaid to your symptoms, not a solution. And there are risks. (…. ok, my Mom actually told me this… but I should have listened to her 🥴)

  2. 😴Sleep is VERY important. The most important. A constant state of hustle and chronically sacrificing our sleep is not cool and shouldn’t be glorified.

  3. ❌ A calorie is not a calorie 🙄

  4. 🥑 Fat doesn’t make you fat

  5. 🤭 Life doesn’t get better the smaller that you are

  6. 🏃🏽‍♀️If you’re waking up at 5 am to do a cardio or HIIT workout after 5 hours of sleep, you’re stepping over $100 bills to pick up pennies, if not over-drafting your “bank account.” It’s pointless and it will backfire.

  7. 🥴The more intense the diet or workout program & the quicker the promised result is, the less sustainable it will be.

  8. 💊 Advil is bad.for.you, it pokes little tiny holes in your gut lining (triggering systemic inflammation) and can cause permanent damage over time. I popped advil like candy, as if there were zero consequences and as if it was “fixing” the problems that I was constantly ignoring.

  9. 🏥 Your body is smart and it will tell you when it needs attention, you just have to listen to it. If you don’t listen to your body when it whispers, you’ll have to listen when it screams.

  10. 🥕 Under-eating damages your metabolism… very counterproductive for the long term

  11. ✅ Healthy doesn’t happen from intense yo-yo diets and 30-day exercise programs. Healthy happens when you are consistent with the little tiny habits overtime

  12. 🩸Your period on birth control is not a real period. And a real period is healthy.  Even if your doctor tells you “there’s absolutely nothing unhealthy about not getting your period.” (Actual quote from my doctor in high school convincing me that birth control is “completely safe.” Disclaimer: this was not true)

  13. 💉Even a single course of antibiotics can permanently alter the gut flora…. 

  14. 🦠 ^70 percent of your immune system is housed in your gut… take care of it!!

  15. 🙅🏼‍♀️Weight and self-worth have nothing to do with each other

  16. ❌You can’t hate yourself healthy

  17. 💊 Diet pills don’t work 😅

  18. 🏋🏽‍♀️There are long-term hormonal consequences to under-eating and/or overexercising. Be gentle with your body.

  19. 🧪Any health fix that seems too good to be true, probably is too good to be true (no, liquid chlorophyll isn’t going to fix all of your problems. It’s not magic 😉)

  20. 🤯CHRONIC.STRESS.MAKES.YOU.SICK. Learning to “respond” to stress in a better way and teaching your body how to adapt to the stressors of modern life is one of the best things you can do for your health.

  21. 😷There are risks to every medication you take (accutane, birth control, antibiotics, advil, midol, adderall, etc.) & sometimes even supplements!

  22. 💊^ But sometimes medication saves our life. There’s a time and a place.

  23. 🩺 Modern medicine isn’t all bad. Alternative medicine isn’t all woo-woo. The best kind of medicine is a little bit of both w/ a focus on PREVENTION.

  24. 👶🏼It’s actually not that easy to get pregnant. There are ONLY 5-6 days MAX in a month that you can possibly get pregnant. Why did Sex Ed teach us that if a boy looked at us we’d get pregnant??

  25. 🩸Those brand-name scented tampons you’ve been wearing since 5th grade are bleached and soaked in toxins & carcinogens, and your vagina is like a sponge. Wear organic, unscented tampons or get a diva cup….

  26. 🕯Most perfume, candles, beauty products, air fresheners, and more are toxic and contribute to hormone imbalances over time.

  27. 💪🏼If you’re tired of starting over, stop giving up.

  28. ❤️‍🩹Healing doesn’t happen overnight! It’s a journey and it’s not linear. But it’s worth the work.

  29. 🏡 Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.
